Jacobs School Policy on Late Files

Any file that will be submitted more than 5 business days after the published deadline will require a late memo to be submitted with the file. The late memo should be submitted as soon as the Department becomes aware that the file will be late.

The memo must be addressed to the Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering, from the Chair of the Department. It must be signed by the Chair and contain the following information:

  1. The proposed file action
  2. The associated deadline
  3. A description of why the file is late
  4. A request for an extension of the deadline
  5. The anticipated date of submission for the file

For faculty holding appointments outside of the Jacobs School

If the file is late due to delays in processing in departments outside of the Jacobs School, you may submit a shortened memo (one sentence is fine) indicating that the delay is occurring in the other department. The Dean will use these memos to follow up with the appropriate Dean's Office to ask for assistance in assuring more timely submission of the file.
