An endowed chair is among the most important gifts to higher education, a vital tool to ensure faculty excellence. An endowed chair honors and recognizes the distinction of superior faculty while providing invaluable financial support above and beyond salary, for use in research, teaching or service activities. It is a powerful recruitment tool.*
At the time of the creation of an endowed chair it will be categorized as one of three types of endowment (see below).
- Department based [http://blink.ucsd.edu/faculty/endowed/campus/department.html] (Click for detailed instructions)
- Handling and submission of the file will take place at the department level.
- The file will then be submitted to the Dean's Office for review and endorsement.
- The EVCAA has final authority on approving the file.
- Non-Department based [http://blink.ucsd.edu/faculty/endowed/campus/nondepartment.html]
- Dean's Office Academic Personnel Staff are responsible for the coordination and submission of the appointment file.
- The EVCAA has the final authority in approving the file. Contact the Dean's Office AP staff if you become involved in appointment of endowed chair designated as non-departmental.
- Administrative [http://blink.ucsd.edu/faculty/endowed/campus/administrative.html]
- Handling and processing of the file is handled by Academic Personnel Services
- The EVCAA has final authority on approving the file.
