Joint Appointments

Faculty who are jointly appointed in two different departments fall under the rules and guidelines of the compensation plan in which they've elected to participate.

For faulty appointed in an Engineering Department and a Health Sciences Department who have elected to participate in HSCP, the following applies:

FSEP
Faculty may be allowed to participate in FSEP. Each request will be looked at on a case by case basis and the maximum amount of FSEP participation will depend on the percentage of their appointment.

Title Code in UC Path
The approved title for each appointment is entered into UC Path. If the Health Science/General Campus split is being paid entirely through the HSCP title, the first appointment is typically Health Science with the Health Science FTE reflecting the base salary as the annual. The following Health Science appointments will reflect the HSCP rate as the annual. There will also be an appointment for the General Campus appointment. This will reflect the General Campus annual rate and will have an RGS line only. You will see funding under the HSCP appointment(s) for the General Campus department equal to their share of the expense.

Summer Salary
Split appointees paid 100% through HSCP are not eligible for additional summer salary as they are in service year round. These individuals should be directed to their Health Sciences home department to determine if additional compensation is appropriate and allowable.
